Doreen Speckmann's Norwegian Chicken Pincushion Pattern
General Information
This cute and fairly easy pattern includes: complete instructions for paper piecing log cabins and making chickens, ultrasuede for two beaks and combs, beads for eyes, and three log cabin paper foundations. They make great gifts for all your quilting friends. You can enlarge and reduce the log cabin foundation to make chickens of all sizes. One store created a chicken ornament by reducing the pattern.

The Story
In 1995 my mother took a group of American quilters to Norway. I actually went along too. At a quilting retreat my borrowed twenty dollars from me to buy a chicken pincushion. I couldn't believe she would spend twenty dollars on a pincushion. She soon figured out how to make the chickens as gifts. When the Point Bonita quilt retreat needed her to teach a fun class the chicken fit the bill. Since then they've been spreading like wild fire. Sadly my mother passed away in September 1999, but I've contiued to sell the pattern and upgrade it a little over the years.
Ideas For Quilt Shops
*cut one inch strips of great colors and create a full kit in very little time.
*teach as a beggining foundation piecing class (it's how I learned to quilt)
*use a little chicken wire to make the display a little coop.
